Transfer Case

Hey Everyone I need a little help again, I had my front drive shaft yoke give away and take out the transfer case. I'm not sure how bad the tranny is until I remove what's left of the transfer case. My question is does any one have any experience with any tranny or 4 wheel drive guys that do rebuilt's in Arizona? I know I will be paying for core charges so I like to find someone close to help reduce freight charges.... I have a 48RE auto and this is the tag off the transfer case.

You might be money ahead to get ahold of Quad 4X4 in Montana, they have brand new NV271 transfer cases with no core charge. Price is $1,489.97 and truck shipment shouldn't be too bad.

I actually had my transfer case explode (for lack of better terms) I ended up buying a used one off of ebay with 65,000 miles for $600. I did change the fluid (because according to the dealer, that is why it let go).

Wow, that encouraging news. Did your trans take any damage, or your fuel lines? So far it looks like it took out all 3 of my fuel lines. I'm not sure of my trans yet until I remove whats left of the TC

I would find a new Dealership............The chances of that happening due to old fluid is almost zero.

What does happen, and happen more often than you would believe is the U-joint lets go and turns the front driveshaft into and incredibly destructive battering ram.

I have seen literally dozens of cases like that in my time around this place, and it never is a pretty sight under there. I can't remember who, but I remember one of our members had the shaft come thru the floorboard on him.

Anyway, that is the number one reason I would change the non-CAD front ends over to a lockout system, if nothing else it prevents the front driveshaft from being driven all the time.

I do not think that a redesign of the front axle drive is called for, considering how many millions of trucks made with this current design that perform flawlessly. I would however, make certain that all the Ujoints are replaced with high quality, greasable aftermarket replacements. These are a known problem for all these trucks and as you discovered, failure of these Ujoints can cause very expensive havoc. Normally Ujoint failure is detectable long before catastrophic failure. I suspect you missed those indicators.

Lots of kits, Dynatrac, Spintek, etc...... basically a bolt on.

Free-Spin? Kit 2000-2008 Dodge 2500 and 3500 with Warn Hubs

Shorty SpynTec Conversion Kit For Dodge 00-08 - Spyntec Conversions - Spyntec Industries LLC.

Yukon 00-08 DRW DODGE SPIN FREE KIT AAM D60 [YA WU-05] - $1,809.15 : EMS Offroad, Custom 4x4 Fabrications

EMS Offroad 00-08 Dodge 2500/3500 SRW Hub Conversion Kit [HC-00D-35] - $1,495.00 : EMS Offroad, Custom 4x4 Fabrications

Steve is correct though, if you maintain it properly, and use HIGH quality parts you have a very small chance of it coming apart on you. You do have to pay attention to any vibrations, and address them promptly though.

I agree with paying attention, I did feel the vibration and bought the truck in to the garage and checked the main drive line and both yokes on the steering axle but failed to check the little drive line, a very costly mistake!!!

Be glad you still have your legs.

That mistake once survived, makes one a champion of listening to the little things our vehicles tell us.

I never had a front one go, but almost pole vaulted a car once, now I buy nothing but the best in suspension, brake and driveline stuff and make sure it is in decent shape......
