trans only has 1st and reverse?
trans only has 1st and reverse?
I have a 06' ram 2500 diesel. Paid it off two days ago, warrenty ended last month at 100k... well at 106k I lost the transmission. I came off the highway with no problems, stopped at the light, gave it gas and only had first gear. Scanned it on the computer with no errors. Any suggestions what to do?

If it has first, then the rear clutch is working.
If it has reverse, the front cluch and rear band are working.
This means it should work in reverse, first and third.
Go drive it and see if you can rev it high in first ( shifter in drive ), let off the throttle to see if it shifts to third.
If it did then the front band is the issue.
If it didn't then it should have a code set. speed sensor, is possible.

I had a similar issue years ago with mine (about 87K miles ago now) and this is my post from a while back of what fixed it for me -
My 05' had a similar problem and it turned out to be an electrical short making the truck go into limp mode. Turns out another member had the same problem before me and his dealer was able to locate the problem for him. After I fixed the short on mine I've never had another problem. You might want to PM him (Pearce) for further detail but here is what he sent me from his dealer invoice -
"Diagnose vehicle and found DTC P2769 for TCC control circuit low. Follow flow chart and called Star, locate the YL/LB wire in pin #9 connector 109 chaffing on top of the bellhousing. Insulate and reroute wiring in connector Y1/LB."
If you go on Dodge Bodybuilder.com you can locate the wiring harness in the electrical section.
Only difference on my truck from Pearce's is that mine had no codes set. Maybe I had a different wire in the bundle that chaffed to cause this, but either way clearing the short fixed the problem.
Good Luck,

Well, some good news. I did a quick inspection but did not find any wires messed up. However, I unpluged the speed sensor connector, plugged it back in, jiggled the other wires and now the transmission shifts! So, now I can get the truck home and then start tracing for a short.
Awesome, just awesome. Thank you for the help, saved me some good money!
cheers!

Great, glad you got it home. Maybe its something as simple as a bad connection in one of the harnesses. Make sure you look real hard and follow all the wire bundles when you are looking for any chaffing or rubbing. Mine was almost impossible to see until you got way up in there. Mine rubbed through on a tightly pulled ground strap and put barely a knife sized slice in one of the wires insulation. I would have NEVER found this if I wasnt looking specifically for it.

Also , check the plugs from the tranny to the PCM on the passenger side firewall. I had to take mine off, spray with electrical connector cleaner, re pack them and plug them back in. This made my transmission shift perfect. My 2 cents.
