tranny has no reverse
On an earlier post I said my strns was slipping a little. I tied the t/v valve back with a piece of wire to about 3/4" inch from full throw. It worked great. Now the bad news, my son was driving it and tried to do a burn out. Now truck has no reverse or nuteral. It shifts through all forward gears. When in nuteral it drives forward, reverse it seems to be in forward and reverse.
Tranny time?

Just a little info for you.
1st gear and all forward gears is the application of the rear clutch. ( in the main case)
2nd gear is rear clutch and front band applied.
3rd gear is rear clutch and front clutch both applied. ( front band is released.)
OD is adding another clutch in the OD section.
R is front clutch and rear band applied.
Now, since you lost reverse, the issue has to be either front clutch or rear band. Follow me?
Since it also wants to drive in neutral I would be suspecting the rear clutch is burnt and has warped components and cannot relese completely.
However, the rear clutch also has to be released to be in neutral. So, it could be damaged also.
Did your son also try to spin them in reverse?
You have to rebuild or replace the trans!
The weakest of all the components I mentioned is the front clutch.
Did you drive it fast enough to see if 3rd works and holds?
Make sure when it gets rebuilt it has either a valve body or it gets a shift kit. Higher line pressure holds it from slipping and will double the life of these trans.

he said it drives through all forward gears and its locked up in reverse, and drives forward in neutral,
if the front clutch was smoked it shouldn't drive forward in neutral as it still needs the rear clutch applyed for third right? and 2nd uses the front band so with no pressure applied to either the front band or rear band it "shouldn't" move forward,
first doesn't use either bands (unless in manual first which then it applys rear band) just the rear clutch, which would cause it to drive forward in neutral since its welded together,
when you put it in reverse it will apply the front clutch, rear band and since the rear clutch is applyed it locks it into a forward gear also.
and since 1st 2nd and third uses the rear clutch (with 3rd using the front clutch) also no bands applied
(except in 2nd which applies the front band so the front band is still good since it drives through all gears properly, unless some information is with held)
he would still have all forward gears. like stated.
Or am i over looking something simple?
Regaurdless it needs rebuilt......this is just for my own future diagnosis.

Well my son is more upset than I am. I figured it was only a matter of time. We have a pull this weekend in Murray NY. That i'm going to miss now.
It is either going to get rebuilt or swapped over to a nv4500.
