Trans Leak down?

I have a 2006 Mega cab. If it sits for more than 5 hours when I go to put it into gear it acts like there is no fluid in the torque converter for about 5 seconds. The dealer says this is within normal operating parameters. Has anyone else run into a situation like this? I only have 5000 miles on it and don't believe this is normal. Thanks.

Welcome!

No, that is not the case with mine...put it in gear & go!

There should be a check vavle in the converter fluid feed circuit. If you let it go, you'll eventually have issues because there is no fluid lubricating moving parts for a few seconds.

Take it back and explain they can fix it now, while it's a small issue or replace the entire trans when it lets go. Be patient, firm, calm, and NO FOUL LANGUAGE.

Or, just take it to another dealer, then be patient, firm, calm, and NO FOUL LANGUAGE.

Have them test drive a couple of the diesel auto's on the lot; then they should understand what you are saying.

Wink

Mine will do it in reverse after it has been parked for 7 to 10 days.
I would verify the fluid level(not rely on what they said) myself.
Some leak down is normal after non-use, but 5 hours is not normal.
If the fluid level is correct, I would say you have a bad check valve.
If the dealer is not willing to take it in for repairs, call the customer service line, find another dealer if possible and look for any TSB`s on the trans.
Good luck with this small problem. Keep us posted on the outcome...
