Trans help. Can't shift into park.

Ok I brook my gear selector cable it was stuck in drive drove it home like that. I ordered the new one it came in this morning. I was trying to install it but I can not get the trans to go into park manually from under the truck. It will go 1st, 2nd, D and then no go any further. Is there something I'm missing here? do I need to do something special to get it to go into park? Any help is appreciated.

It's prob a valve body issue. Gotta go inside it to fix it.

I just dropped the pan and found a little black plastic piece in the bottom of it. I'll post pics up in a second. I got it to go into park by slightly pushing in the plunger with my finger, seems to hang on the piece that plunger hits that attaches to the sift leaver.
