tranny temps

just curious, what kind of tranny temps do you folks see on daily driving, (not towing) & outside temp being 0-100 degrees, (like wisconsin gets)? if you tow 5-10k what type of difference do you see? thanks.

Normal driving around town, stop & go, I'll see around 120*. When towing my 5'er it'll get up to 160-170* on the highway.

What you see for tranny temps will depend on where you pull them from. If you just use what the computer tells you then mine runs 150-190 most of the time. I'm waiting on my Banks IQ and then I will sheck to see if I can add a sensor to the tranny pan to get a better temp.

Thats about what I see, my temp probe is in the pan. The hottest I have ever seen is 220*, that was sitting in stop and go traffic with the car trailer in 90* heat. Once traffic started moving it cooled down to normal.

at cruising speeds (TC Locked) i see <100* (winter or summer)
Around town speeds i see 130-150 winter or summer.
Towing during the summer i can hit 160-180ish*

You need to take temps from the hot line to your cooler. Taking a temp from the pan isnt accurate. You are getting a mixure of cooled and hot oil. Taking it from the hot line is directly from your tranny to the cooler, this will be your hottest oil in the tranny.

In the cooler hot line, temps run from 140 in winter to 180 in the summer normal driving. Towing with the TC locked hottest I have ever seeen is 195 with a big load in the summer. Normally runs 180-190 all the time loaded.

160 to 190 here unless towing thru town stop light to stop light. The trucks computer as read by the Attitude indicated 230 the last time stop light to stop light. Water temp was up to 234 as well. The fan never came on I'm sure.

Today, I moved the trailer again, 88 outside, stop light to stop light without the Juice and Attitude installed. The temp gauge never got over 200, A/C on, and for the first time actually heard the fan. Infact, when I got home, I opened the hood and felt the fan paulsing on and off. I don't know what the Tranny Temp was. I assume it was the same as the water temp based on the relationship of the two and the last time.

So I don't know what if anything the Edge installation has to do with the fan operation. It sure never worked until I removed the Edge from the truck.

if your hitting 234 coolant temp, there is something wrong. i hit 213 towing 10K in the rockys during the summer once and i freaked out, pulled over and let it cool. I work on marine diesels and they get shut down at 203 so i use that as a standard. I would think hitting 234 is causing some type of damage there.

The high temps I saw the first time were directly related to the fan not working.

The second time out the fan was working correctly as mentioned above. I know now the fan works so if it does it again, I might put an electric fan up front.
