Normal tranny temps towing
I was towing my tractor 30hp sub-compact with loader and brush hog on my tandem axle trailer in stop and go traffic, tranny temps were running around 215 degrees according to my BD-X monitor.I had my quad race set in the 60HP position, outside temps were around 81-83 degrees.I was towing on flat ground no hills. When I got back up to highway speeds 55-60 mph the temps went back down 180-190 degrees. My question,is 215 degrees normal while towing in city traffic? What is the Max temp you should look for so you will not cause any tranny damage? I was told not to let the tranny temp get over 230-240 degrees,is this true? Thanks for any info.coobie
I have seen this temp or more towing my 5er in town (13000 LBS.).Once up to speed 45+ temps drop between 165 and 185 depending on ambient temp. Change your fluid more often as the high temps take the fluid life away. Do a search someone gave some numbers on temp/miles before fluid change.
