48re trans
Theres a lot of people that are unhappy with the 05 48re., just because you cant lockout the 4th gear. The new for 05 tow mode is good but eliminating the 4th gear lockout causes a lot of gear hunting between 3rd and 4th when the road conditions are right to cause it. No reason why it couldnt be reprogramed back in if Chrisler would just do it, or at least make it a option.

If they weren't using a 25 year old hydraulic transmission, you also wouldn't have the hunting problems.
If DC would just do it.
You could also get 25+ miles to the gallon

I could go on and on on this one.
Why do MOST of the complaints about the auto trans come from people who don't have them. OD lockout would be a nice option, but all in all I have had no problems towing with mine (approx. 10K). Compared to the other big 2, it seems we've got a pretty good, reliable trans. Start bombing your truck and it may be a different story. I loved my old 99' 5 speed manual, but lazy towing sure is nice too!
i have an 05 48re and TOW BIG! between 13,000 to 20,000lb and i want overdrive lockout. the darn thing hunts to much between 3rd and 4th when speeds drop below 65mph. and dont tell me i should have bought a standerd my 03 auto with overdrive lockout worked perfect.
Bluepp, i was looking at an 06 2500 auto yesterday and tow/haul mode with overdrive lockout is BACK! push the button on the shifter once for tow/haul mode and twice real fast for overdrive lockout. im kinda thinking about trading before i kill my tranny. the last trip to colorado was a pain!

Right on pecomdude, theres times when you just gotta lockout 4th.
And yes the gear vender is a gear spliter. It gives you a high and low in each gear. Low would be same as stock.
Like low third would be same as stock but high 3rd would give you a gear between stock 3rd and stock 4th.
High 4th would give you a 5th gear for better gas milage running empty.

I also have an '05 with 48RE and was hoping to be able to get the Jacobs exhaust brake at sometime in the future. Pulling 13000# occasionally it would really be a help.
Unfortunately this is what the Jacobs site says:
{http://www.jakebrake.com/content.php4?doc_uid=73}
"The Jacobs Exhaust Brake for 2005 and prior model years will not be available. The 2006 Jacobs Exhaust Brake will only work with the 48RE automatic transmission when mated to the Cummins 610 (in addition to the manual transmission Rams) in the 2006 Dodge Rams."
Bummer!!
