Tranny is on its way out

Well today on my way to work I noticed my tranny acted a bit funny. I was at a set of lights. I turned right onto 3A which has a slight incline to it. This road has a 40mph speed limit. So after taking the turn I gave her some gas. I took off slow but eased into her a little to get up the little hill. Fist went into second fine. But second started to slip heavily shot all the way up to 3500 and wouldn't go into third till I backed off it. It kept gaining speed but it went right past the power band. No I wasn't flooring it. Just about 1/2 pedal or so. Once in third it seemed to run fine. But I was on a 40mph road. I got to the highway and had no real way of checking second since the on ramp goes down a hill. But I got into third and floored it. It took off and shifted perfectly into 4th. I checked the fluid when I got to work. A little burnt and in the safe zone. Well after work I took a different way home to see if it would happen again. Sure enough first is not better than second. Both slipping heavily and taching out to 3500 right away. I fully understand they are suppose to slip past 1k-2k. But if I was pulling a trailer it would be a huge issue. Thank god she only has 57 clicks on it. I am off to the dealer on Monday morning. One other thing no codes. I checked

Sorry to hear about your trouble Dave. Please keep us informed.

Are you running any power adders?? I didn't notice any in your sig. Just wonder what is making the tranny fail. I have been running my Smarty on Level 7 and haven't had any problems with my trans. Almost 55,000 on the ticker.

I only bought 4 months ago. I was getting around to the tranny on the next oil change which was this month (3k intervals) I had changed the diff's and the transfer case. The only real mod is a quad xzt 65/190 and I only push that when I am on the highway. I never spin the tires. Although I have tried once or twice but the truck would never spin them. It would slip past and go into second. It would chirp them a bit but never roast them. I just figure it was the anti slip and the big tires. Plus I am not 18 anymore so it really didn't matter. So maybe when I got it the tranny was already weak. But I am glad I researched the warranty and paid DC the 150 to transfer it over. Lets hope she makes it to work today and more important...she makes it home

Even if DC repairs it, you may still want to consider some upgrades in the future. An aftermarket Valve body and tq converter will help put the power to the ground.

I think I will bring it to the dealer this week. I don't want a fix if it is slipping I would want the complete rebuild. So I figure the more I drive it the worst it will get. But What is a good synthetic tranny fluid to change over too. I figure if they have to rebuild it or replace it. It would be a good time to go to synthetic. I would just need a case right? Anybodu know how many quarts the 48re holds

Your tranny should already have synthetic fluid in it.

Robert, your slushbox only has ~2K miles less than BigDave's... and with your Smarty addiction - you could slip any day now!

I watch my fuel pressure gauge like a hawk (future aftermarket lift pump coming eventually) and I notice every shift on the trans....just waiting to see when my appt. with James will be set.

So far both are doing great, stock.

I wish Santa would put a lift pump and DTT billet trans under my tree, but I don't think I have been that good of a boy this year.

I just got back from the dealer. I am going to drop it off in the morning. They head mechanic, BIlly, took it for a ride. He said that it is common for the second gears band to have slipping issues. Anyone else have this problem with second slipping. I am dropping it off in the morning and will no more tomorrow.
