Tranny issues
Tranny issues
About four years ago I had my 48RE rebuilt by a local diesel shop to handle my new fifth wheel. The shop installed a new flex plate, valve body and clutches, etc. For the first couple of years everything worked great. Even made a tough pull to Yosemite. However, things have gone south with the tranny. Now when I am towing, if I am in heavy traffic the torque converter will lock up prematurely almost bogging the truck down. When I take off from a stop, the tranny will shift from first to second then bam! I took the truck back to the diesel shop and they confirmed with their tool that it was locking up at low speeds but had no clue as to why. Seems to me to be a sensor or a pressure issue. Any ideas?
I have found out there there is an issue with the 2004 Dodge ecm program. Dave from Goerend Transmission says he has a wiring harness fix that solves the problem. I may go that route. More to come.
