tranny help please
hey guys i hope some one can help me!!!!!!
i have an 2006 2500 ctd 4x4 and it has 11000 mi on it 2 weeks ago i put a 6 inch superlift rockrunner lift on it & 37"x13.5xr20 toyo mt's.
heres the deal i have only put about 750 mi on it sence lifted but last weekend i noticed as i took off from a stop that it felt like the trans. slipped a little in 1st gear @ about 15 or16 mph sense then i've noticed this enough times to scare me!! It shifts fine all the time except at that speed and when it starts to feel like its sliping if i let off the pedal a little bit or just push on through it its fine after that but its just weird that 750 mi after lift and tires i feel trans problems
my questions are:
1. is there a chance that the 37" tires are making the tranny slip?
2. is it mabey just that the trans shift points are off because of the bigger tire and its making it act funny ?
3. if it is possible for it to be the tires and there is transmission problems would would i have warrenty problems because i put the big tires and lift on
4 if it is just acting funny because the computer shift points are off because of the bigger tires do you think that a programmer such as edge or somthing that you can change shift points with could correct this?
any info or help from any body who has had this problem or knows anything about it would be greatly appreciated!!
last week i was thinking about which programmer to get back some of my lost power this week i am thinking about my crappy 48RE going out and having the dealer tell me its my fault because of the tires that i've had on here for 2 weeks ....... lol!!!

I would bet your tranny is going south. Be very careful where you take it to. They will void your warranty in a heart beat. The royally screwed me on my warranty and I didnt do anything wrong. If it was like me they will void the whole powertrain. Which includes about everthing. The stock 48re want handle much of nothing. If you have the extra cash upgrade the tranny before it gets worse. With your mods the stock tranny will never hold. Most 48re s want handle stock power.
please i dont think i explained it right i dont have a programer what i need to know is if any one knows for sure if the dealer will void my warrenty because of the oversized tires that i have had for two weeks or about 750 miles

Kev I know you got a screw job from your dealer on the warranty. I also know you got a lemon for a 48re. But your bad tranny doesn't make all 48RE's bad trannys. They are overall pretty good transmissions. I have heard they actually have a much better record than Ford's torqueshift and Chevy's Allisons as far as dependability. Anybody can get a lemon from any mechanical thing built by man. Im sorry you have had bad luck with yours, but I do get tired of reading you posts spouting off about how BAD the 48re is all the time to others who may not know either way.
My stock 48 Re is holding 467hp right now, driven daily with currently 70k on it. I have towed a GCVWR of 26,000+ with it for hundreds of miles at that power level. I have also towed a heavy Toyhauler grossing around 20k several times and in hills for several hundred miles.
LuvnaCumns is pushing over a 100 hp than me with absolutely no problems. GMScott got 200,000 + miles out of his 04.5 with a 48RE running hot shot heavy hauling all the time.
My point is they are not all junk. Yours is. Even yours probably just needs a good aftermarket tq converter.
Again, im sorry for your troubles with your tranny. Yours was the exception and not the RULE. Please quit branding all 48RE
s as junk when they are not.
Back on track, Josh your dealer is not gonna void your warranty for a larger tire or a lift ( unless you went so big your driveshaft angle is way to steep and damaged something ). Dealers even if they want to void a warranty have to prove that your mod caused the damage to the vehicle. Also, with a slipping trans a programmer is the absolute worst thing you can do. If you have any type of additive in the tranny fluid have the fluid changed. You dont wanna give yourself the change of them calling foul.
Hate to tell you my dealer was not going to warranty my tranny because I had H2 wheels and 315's on it. I did not have the downloader on it then! I ended up making a deal with them ... they paid the labor on warranty and I bought a TC & VB from ATS to put in it. Pretty fair deal I thought.

Agreed. Kev - How about you start one rant thread and leave it at that?

thanks for all the input guys its very interesting to hear all the difference in opinion as far as the tranny it self gos i've heard its not as strong as for instance allison as i had on my previous truck but cant imagine it being so week that it cant handle the tires for even 750 miles anyways more opinions would help i really wish it would just be somthing like the shift points as pull u 2 pointed out but im not sure also if thats what it is how do i fix it i've heard that edge will reprogram for shift points but im not sure about that either and if edge does reprogram for that and thats not it then i guess im really in truble if i take it to the dealer were im at now is trying to figure out weather to take it to the dealer and let them look at it or trying to fix the shift points first any one who knows how please tell me.
also pull u 2 what did you do to fix it and if you don't mind what was yours doing when you noticed it before you fixed it?

Did you find out what the issue was? I am having similar problems with mine. In reverse and 1st gear it seems to slip. It is really hard to explain but it feels rubbery (not a word). I also have oversized tires and have not calibrated yet.
