Tranny going out?
Tranny going out?
This weekend I was pulling my fifth wheel to a nearby campsite. Everything going fine until I got out about 10 miles and then I could not get it to shift into overdrive. Trans temp went to 260 degrees. As I hooked up today to head home I noticed the truck would not pull the trailer from a dead stop going slightly uphill. I got things going in low range and after leveling out was able to get going in 2 wheel high. I noticed I do not have 1st or 2nd gear nor overdrive. I still have reverse. Going forward I seem to be starting in 3rd, gear. Driving down road I shifted gear lever into 2nd but truch stayed as is in 3rd..
Driving level ground at 55 mph, trans temp is 205 degrees.
Any ideas? I will be contacting tranny shop tommarrow.
2005, Dodge 5.9, Rwm 350, 4X4. 3 speed auto trans w/overdrive.

Where is your temp reading coming from? If it's in the "hot" line from the trans I wouldn't be too concerned about getting up to 260. Might want to service it a little more often, but not certain death by any means. At this point I would be leaning towards an electrical issue.
Tranny serviced about 5k ago. Temp sensor in hot line to cooler. Turns out it was in limp mode.
Truck is in tranny shop now. looks like servo problem.
Driving the hour to tranny shop in limp mode tranny temp was between 185 and 202. Would that be normal? What should normal hot line temps be?
