Tranny fluids
Tranny fluids
He guys, Im curious to know when ya'll changed your tranny fluid and what type would be the best to use and for what conditions, at how many miles and such, (ie. towing, racing, highway useage).
Just a quick reply, I am no expert
by any means. However, I have a tranny temp guage and I tow a 14,000 5th wheel. I changed to AMSOIL SYNTHETIC and the temp towing went down over twenty degree's pulling the same load on the same road at the same outside temp.
Temp is what normally KILLS
the Tranny, I am told. If that is the case, I would suggest looking into a SYNTHETIC and try it out.
The cost of the fluid is a little higher of course, but a lot less than a rebuilt trans.

I use Redline C+. Don't do a lot of serious towing, but it seems to work the same as the +4 that came in the trans from the factory. By the way, all the various trans fluids for these transmissions are synthetic. Would be a dis-service to the truck to run any kind of non-synthetic.

I am assuming, as others, you mean automatic tranny, so you need ATF +4.
Autozone or Advanced Auto both sell Valvoline ATF +4 synthetic.
Mopar ATF +4 is also synthetic.
Advanced Auto also sells their own branded +4 but it is not synthetic. Castrol also makes a non-synthetic +4. I would stick with synthetic for any application.
Maintenance schedule says to flush every 30K miles.

Please re-read your manual, it says to drop pan and replace filter and re-fil with 4-5 qts fluid. That is all that is recomended and/or required. Many honest/good tranny shops "Do not recomend" the transmission flushing procedure unless it is done a specific way to keep from forcing crud into the valve bodies. The plus 4 fluid is a friction modified fluid that Dodge specified for use in their trannys. It will work in older trannys by Chrysler but is not required. Not using it in the newer ones usually causes a fairly rapid failure of shifting and other damages to the Chrysler trans. There are a few +4 compatable fluids out there now and I under stand that the Amsoil is OK to use also.
Personally I would use the Chrysler fluid as long as you are under warranty just to keep your a$$ covered.

Here we go again with the Flush/ No Flush crud. Plenty of previous threads on this. Just use the search function. I personally flush my tranny. Period, end of story. Like I have said before, when you change your oil do you only change half of it? I don't think so. As long as you keep up with your services you will have no issues flushing. Just change the filter at 50,000 to 60,000 miles before it is flushed again.
