I'm not quite sure but when I did mine this past summer I think there was a loose magnet stuck to the bottom of the pan. I don't know how it would be attached to the filter though. Sorry I couldn't be a better help.

thanks guys.what threw me off was i had the dealership install my pml aluminum tranny pan last spring when i had the tranny fluid flushed. i know magnets don't stick to aluminum. so the magnet must of been on the top of the tranny filter and when i picked up the old filter out of the pan, it must of scraped off the side of the pan. this is why i do all my own maintenance-except for the tranny flush!

It's normal top find a magnet in the pan. Clean it off and make sure you put it back in. It catch's some of the fine metal that is from normal use. Whoever installed your PML pan was thinking for you that is for sure because they put it back in somewhere.

yeah just installed my PML pan today. Left the magnet out. I dont want that magnet just sloshing around in there. I figure now with the drain plug, its easier to change the tranny fluid more often, not to mention the magnet on the plug itself will be suffient IMO.
