Tranny feelings

I owned a 94 CTD with an auto trans. It always seemed to shift very smoothly. Now I own a 04.5 CTD 325/600 4:10. As I drive this truck I can't help to think something is wrong with the tranny. It seems to punch into gears like a hi-performance shift kit. It seems like I can feel every gear change. My old truck didn't have this feeeling unless I was on it. Is this normal?

Not comparing apples to apples.47re(94 model) and 48re(04.5) The 48re is a lot stronger in many ways then the 47re.Need to drive another 04/05 truck and compare.

We all think that our trannies shift firmer than they should. (one reason is I am used to the shifts in my wifes 07 sburban) Having firm shifts is not a bad thing when your buggy put's out the torque it does. If the shifts were mushy (like my wifes saburban) the tranny would not last long. I did learn what makes the tranny shift firm or smooth and that is the way I drive it. That seems to help matters.

Your older truck came with a 47rh which was not electronically controlled. The 4.5 and up trucks do not have a TV cable as your old truck did, the new trucks have an accuator (TTVA) which took the place of the TV cable. The TV controls internal line and throttle pressure as well as how the trans up-down shifts. Since the comp is in charge if this now, you have no control over it. Many people have talked about this in the past and if you serch on the sujbect you will see that the newer 48's (4.5 and up) tend to act erradic at times but its the comp feeding more pressure into the various circuits in the VB. Also the 48's run higher stock line pressures than the 47's did. Thats why you feel every gear change compared to your other trans(I assume it was also stock).
