Traded my truck
Not so in my case, they gave me $12,300 for the trade and sold it for like $14,000, that's about a trany's difference. Though I'm sure somewhere in the deal they made money, but not much.
I understand that they might have gotten the raw end of the dealer on this truck but over all used dealerships make more money on a used truck than a new one, usually. Even though the dealer got the raw end of this deal, usually it is the other way around. The dealer can afford it compared to the average consumer.
For yall who enjoy these type threads, In october of 1999 I went to the local Ford dealer to see about trading my 1998 3/4 4x4 reg cab V10 st 5 speed. I had 30k miles on it and the clutch was going out. I loved the truck but the clutch was a $2000 job that I didn't want. They test drove it and came back offering 20000 for it. I about died right then because I only paid 22500 brand new for it. I told them that it wasn't enough and we settled for 22k. I drove off in a loaded 99 Ford F-250 Powerstroke and left them with a 14k dollar truck ,,maybe. I got a call 2 days later stating that a mistake had been made and that they didn't realize that it wasn't a Cummins (they test drove it mind you). I told them too bad and that was that. Next day my sales guy calls me laughing and says that the first guy to test drive the truck took it up to about 115mph on the service road and rolled it 5 times. He left the scene and was later arrested(he left a copy of his dl at the dealer). That dealer was out of business within the next few months,,,hem I wonder why? They must have thought the 1998 Cummins was awfully quiet.
reminds me of a story...
i had a 97 v10 dodge ram club cab dually 4x4. hit a patch of black ice on the highway, and totalled the truck. it was leased thru chrysler credit. I was three years into my four year lease and had 92k on it and was allowed 100k over the term. long story short, three months after the accident i get a call from chrysler wanting me to pay an over mileage charge(now i knew that there was gap insurance on the lease) of a couple of thousand dollars. I told the lady where to stick it as i knew of the gap insurance and i said besides even if there was no gap protection, as far as i was concerned i was under mileage. how did she know that i want intending to park the truck when it hit 100k? that was the last i heard from them...
i guess you dont know until you try...
just my .023$ worth
oren
