48 re sloppy in reverse?

I was backing a 20 ft. empty trailer yesterday and got in a spot with my front wheels behind a small curb. I gave it some throttle and nothing happened except an increase in rpms. I put it in 4 high and it behaved the same way. I dropped it into 4 low and it crawled right over. Are the these trans really supposed to be this sloppy (unlocked completely feeling) while in reverse? The trans shifts well otherwise and has been properly maintained.
Thanks
Joe

Yeap, that is the way it works with the factory TC. That is the problem. But if you get a more efficient one you risk breaking other parts like the input shaft.
