towing MPG's

I just got back from the dunes. I was towing a 18' trailer with some quads. About 3k lbs. averaging about 70mph.. I only was getting about 12 mpg. Is this normal? I asume it would be better. I would hate to see the milage with a 12k trailer.

I pull campers of about every shape and size and i get 11.5 to 12 all the time running 65 to 70. I have tryed about everything and nothing seems to work to bring it up. I can get 13 to 13.5 if i run 50 to 55. But i cant stand to run that slow and with everybody else running 85 on todays highways, you can get yourself killed by driving that slow.
I hope that helps

9.3 to 9.7 towing flat faced enclosed car trailer (8 - 10K depending car) at 78ish mph. Low 10s with a 8.75K tag camper at same speeds) I know I should go slower but sometimes I am not so bright. BTW I live abd tow above 5000 ft.

Wish it was better but past big block gasser would not pull the same trailer at speed and speed would drop quickly on ANY grade and got 6 to 6.5 mpg under the same conditions. Very glad I have the Cummins now!

Hope it helps.

Most trips my trailer is at 12.5K with the truck loaded as well. We tow at 70-75 mph on the open road and get 10 -11 mpg. I have the 4.10 gears.

10-13 is NORMAL while towing just about any weight TT or 5VR that has any height to it. It doesn't matter what it weighs, it's the wind resistance tha tdoes you in.
Just remember that you can tow a 100lb barn door(against the wind of course) and probably get worse mpgs thatn if yo were towing a 10klb cement pipe.

You would probably get way better milage if you stayed below 60mph.

I'm getting about 11.5 - 12 MPG with the rig in my gallery. She weighs in just under 12000 loaded for the races.
