Tow/haul vs OD button

Any difference in the 48re tow/haul button functions and the old OD lockout button on the second gen trucks?

Seems like they do the same thing, but am not sure.

yes there is a difference. tow/haul holds gears longer and downshifts when you let off the gas so you dont waste your brakes trying to slow the truck down.

The downshift is just a feature of the 3rd gens... my 03 Hemi did the same thing and it was labeled as "O/D Off".

btw, on an '05, the 48RE will shift into OD while cruising, however it is supposed to be smart enough to avoid the 'hunting' between 3-4... so far it seems to be working pretty good but I have only towed 5k so far. I will test more weight on steeper hills later this week.

I am having trouble understanding how this transmission works. My owner's manual just says the tow/haul button causes the transmission to downshift out of overdrive. However, as you know, that is an inaccurate description. Does DC have any published info on how the transmission works? Seems to be a lot of confusion at dealers and owners about how the transmission is supposed to work.

Don't worry about it. If the tranny is hunting the push the button and or slow down. If you slow down about 5mph and engage the cruz then the computer will run things and do a better job than most of us could anyway.
I tow in OD witht the cruz set @ 65mph all day long.

I have been towing in OD since new.I tried tow/haul a few times and find the weight I tow it isnt needed unless I use it for braking down steep inclines.

Towing a stock trailer with one or two horses, I dont use the tow/haul button and get no hunting for gears, just stays in OD. When I am on city streets and staying under 40mph I use the button sometimes even unloaded, just to keep it from going into OD and then having to downshift in a few blocks.
