There are a few ways you can do it. one, you can unplug the connector at the seat belt and put a female plug in it. You can use connector (cant remember name) but its the one you tie two wire together with. one wire goes all the way through the other end terminates in the plug. You cut the plastic out so you can get two wires to go all the way through. put that over the two wires that come out of seat belt latch. 6speeds will not have this problem. it's only a auto thing.

This will NOT affect the way your air bags deploy. Air bags deploy or they dont. there is no half deployment because your seat belt isn't plugged in. It will also NOT affect the seat belt tensioner. The tensioner is mechanical.

One day, I was lost in thought, sitting in my duramax on the farm. I finally decided on what I should do about the issue I was thinking about, jumped out of my truck, and my truck just took off. I had been sitting there in gear with my foot on the brake. After I caught my truck and climbed back in, harder than you would think, I laughed my butt off. Now if it had been honking, I bet it would have been much funnier.

seatbelt tensioner for daily use IS mechanical....but when you get into an accident, and your airbags deploy, there is an explosive device found in the recoiler mechanism that retracts the seatbelt-pulling you back into the seat.

exactly. The pre-tensioner is fired a split second before the airbags deploy to draw you back into the seat so your face isnt right on the horn pad when the airbag deploys.

As far as I know HD (ie, over 8600gvw) trucks do not have dual-stage airbags. The crash impulse (force your body is subjected to when you hit something) is a lot less severe from the HD trucks simply because they weigh so much more, so the single stage airbags' deployment force in the HD trucks is equivalent to the less-powerful first stage deployment of the light duty trucks.

off topic, but when did they start incorporating pre-tensioners in the dodges? I know the 2nd gen's didnt have them.

So then, what does it really hurt if the jumper is installed making the system think the seatbelt is plugged in at all times? The system would still retract the seatbelt when necessary. Ideally you would have the seatbelt buckled at the time of incident, but if not, the system just attempts to retract seatbelts that are already retracted. There is no negative effect on the driver, other than a possible unnecessary repair/recharge of the seat belt tensioner. Mostly likely that's a minor concern after an accident of that magnitude.

If the status of the seatbelt buckle directly affects the force of the airbag deployment, that's a separate issue certainly worthy of consideration.

I put a toggle switch under the dash and hooked it up to the wire going directly to the horn. When I get ready to hook up the trailer I just flip the switch and no horn.

A couple of points:

1. Why would you want to disable a safety device that warns you if your vehicle is in reverse when you step out of it?

2. Does it really take that much more time to just get in and shut the door before backing? What if you slipped while having your one foot hanging out the door?

3. I've hooked my trailer up a hundred times using just the mirrors. It's not that hard.....

4. You would probably look more like a retard laying under your truck after it ran over you or worse yet if it ran over one of your kids.

Because that safety feature is really unnecessary. Just put your vehicle in park and use the ebrake. Won't roll anywhere if it pops out of park.

Yes it does take a lot if you are only planning on backing up six inches or so. Very much an inconvenience. What happens to you when you slip?

Congratulations, some of us like having the door open. Everyone has their own ways of doing things.

Well, if you are Retarded enough to have your children standing in a place where they could be struck then you have bigger problems than the horn.

This was just really for the people who wish to have the "Cheap Dodge Safety Recall" turned off while backing to hook up a trailer. No harm will be done by jumping wires on the seat belt. All safety function still work the same. No ones life is in danger by doing any of the mods listed here to correct the horn issue.

What happened to people being smarter then a machine. When you work around heavy equipment everyday you figure out how to be smart enough not to get ran over by something. The guy that got ran over by his own pick up was a retard. Ok that was probablly a little harsh, either way when did it become dodges problem to protect us from ourselves. If i wanted the horn to honk when i backed up i could've put a back up beeper on. But when your hooking to the horse trailer at five in the morning and the stupid horn starts going off because the door didn't latch all the way thats just unrespectful to the neighbors. If i get ran over by my own pick up then i should have been paying more attention. If you want to blame dodge then blame them for not fixing the problem properly instead of just putting on some gay horn honk warning.

I agree. Most of these things the manufacturers install on our vehicles and call "safety features" are simply "stupidity features". with all these "helpful" gadgets like the out of park alarm, reverse sensors, auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers etc. nobody ever has to put down their cellphone while driving.

IIRC one of the earlier Smarty versions got rid of it, but I've got the TNT loaded now and the truck honked at me this morning...

I'll choose to live with it. I usually remember to plug in the belt before backing.
