Tired of looking like a retard!!!
Not sure what you mean by the pretensioners not working in this example. The seat belt latch will think the same either way-it is just a normally open switch that is closed when you latch the belt. Pretensioners if installed will work whether you put the seat belt on or not in this case. Your choice not to wear seatbelts will result in the face plant if involved in accident. Latching the seat belt behind you is just as bad or worse as one will have no protection if left in this position and operates a vehicle. I have and will always wear my seat belt when operating any vehicle anyway (have since seatbelts were invented). Like I said in my last post, I was not telling anyone to do the jumper-I was showing what could be done to prevent the horn from blowing in reverse like some posters were complaining. Your vehicle-your choice.
The back up horn is only for automatics. It was a cheesy fix for not having your truck in park. When my lift pump went out on my truck it was after the TSB came out for the problem. I asked the dealership to not install it. They are supposed to install any safety related TSB's. They were nice enough to 'forget' to install it.
I went to a local junkyard and got a PAIR of lapbelts that use the same plug-in end as our trucks do. Had an upholstery guy make me a short belt about a foot long using the two belt pieces, and it is adjustable. It works well to knock off the seatbelt dinger and gets the shoulder belt out of the side of my neck. I leave it plugged in all the time and disconnect it at the extension end.
Since it probably is the micro switch on the door that activates the horn honk when a current is sensed, you could make a little plate that keeps the micro switch from turning on the light OR put a switch in line to cut off the return voltage being sensed. It would be easy to mount the switch right alongside the other switches at the drivers door switch controls. Use the ON position for normal operation and the OFF position for when you are backing up with the door open.
I do not open my door when backing, tried it once to see if I could set off the horn, didn't set it off. Certainly NOT a standard transmission thing, just those with automatics I guess. I too use my mirrors when backing.

Never thought about putting a scotchlock on the seat belt wires. I think i will do this and just start making sure that the thing is in park before i get out. I don't back with door open to see where i'm going i just don't shut the door to back up 2 inches. This is just one more thing i hate about the auto. Wish i would have been more patient and found a six speed, but you can't pass up a good deal when you get one. I just hope the tranny will puke so I can build it and make it work like it should. Sure wish dodge would have fixed the park lock thing instead of that stupid honk.

Interesting solution..
You essentially built a seat belt extender which should work perfectly.
Note the Mopar p/n on the auction.

get a used seat belt (the male part attached to the belt) from a salvaged truck. Cut it from the belt and plug that in. Viola...
No seat belt chime.. As for the backup, no clue, but I was told some programmers could disable this?
A simple old fashoined toggle switch on the horn wire will do it too. My 04 aint got the update thankfully, and if there ever a time I must take it to the dealership, I will be bundling up the OBDI port so it's not easily accesable and might add a label to it saying not to flash.
It can be done with a relay in the horn wiring. Put a normally closed relay in the wires that go to the horns themselves. Then bring a wire to the relay from the backup lights to the relay field. Ground the other side of the relay field. The relay will open the contacts that complete the horn circuit when the backup lights come on, NO HORN HONKING in reverse!
seatbelt extender
I just went to the dealership and told them I was too fat (5'10"/180) to wear the factory seat belt and they gave me an extender free. I leave it plugged in all the time. When I wear the belt I plug it into the extender. I don't have the horn honking and/or the dinger going off when I'm working around the farm with the truck and no seatbelt on or when backing to the trailer.
But then I also agree the jumper on the seatbelt wire will work just as well. Has absolutely nothing to do with whether I wear the belt or not or whether my belt/bag system will function properly. Just shuts off the dinger and horn with absolutely no safety issues.
This issue came about because of a lawsuit where an operator opened the door and stepped out when mistakenly leaving the truck in reverse and got ran down. After paying out the nose Chrysler added the horn honking circuit. Why can't people just accept responsibility for their own actions without suing???

I wish i knew what a better world it would COULD be...
Hot coffee who ever heard of such a thing?
P.S just another reason i love my 5 and 6 speed truck's...

I keep it handy in the floor console.
