Tire Size reflash
Tire Size reflash
Got the truck back from the dealer today... I had the computer reflashed for my 315 tires.. What a difference it made with the truck.. It is shifting and running like it did when it had the stock tires on it..
I didn't realize (or got used to) the slight power decrease from the 315's but it is sure a noticable difference. The shifting is much tigher and keeps the truck in the power band better when WOT.
I can recommend this to anyone how gets the larger tires...
To bad my warranty milage will run up faster now..

Gerry, If you had this done to correct your revs/mile. Shouldn't your mileage still add up correctly now? Your warranty will still last the proper amount SINCE you did get this done, otherwise, I agree. More miles then speedo really is.
Oh, I know. It is really because now with the tires on, you drive around a lot more.
I hope to get mine new 315's on next week. Then the mudflaps to cover their rock throwing up on the truck.

ahhh but before the resetting of the revolutions per mile the odometer was reading less miles than I was actually driving...
I am not to worried about the milage part of the warranty.. My last truck was a 99 Durango and I sold it after 5 1/2 years it only had 32,000 miles on it...
My 91 S-10 only has 70K after 15 years...
Time will expire on my waranty first...

OK this makes me angry! I talked to 5 dealers here in Houston and they all said it cant be done for my size tires! I just put on 315 BFG's and just decided to deal with the speedo being off. They all wanted to charge me a 1 hour service charge to try. This is going to cost anywhere from 80 to 120 bucks, but since all dealers said it could not be done, I gave up! I was willing to pay too. Dodge dealers suck but where else can we get our trucks from?
tx red, if you do a thorough search on the subject and go tot the service department and tell them you could " walk them through" the procedure I am sure they would be mor e than happy to do yours as a triao and then they would be able to charge customers in the future, bring the step by step with you printed for them but only show them after they agree to do yours for free. their scan tools will need the latest updates to do the job, I had to wit for my dealer to reprogram their scanner but after that it was a walk in the park.
good idea but the dealers here in Houston are either morons or Aholes so its really a lose-lose situation. BTW I have tried to do a search for the step by step procedure but cant seem to find the right keywords to bring it up. Does anyone have a spare DRBIII tool I could borrow for 5 minutes???????

I don't know if I caught him just right or what, but the Service Manager at Helfman Dodge on I-10 & Silber did mine about a year ago. I have bought the last two trucks there and have them do all the maintenance work. Maybe that helped, but he did mine for free and told me to just remember where to get my service work done.
Just tell them what the new rpm should be. I used 605 on mine, my speedometer and mileage have been checked many times and are as accurate as they can be. The BFG specs show 601rpm, but the 605 was given to me by another Cummins owner with exact setup as mine. He showed me his GPS while in his truck and it was pretty close to exact.

I think the diffrernce in all the numbers is the inflation of the tires.
I told the dealer to set it to 598 or 601 (those are the numbers from the bfg site and others on this site that have done gps calibrating. I forgot to ask what they actually set it to..
The manual has them measure the tire diameter and divide by the Feet in a mile to get the Rev per mile.. If they do this when the truck is in the air they will come up with a lower number than if they have the weight of the truck on the ground and roll the truck over the tape measure.
Tire inflation has an effect also.. more air = larger tire diameter = less rev per mile.
I will probably fine tue it if our fleet mechanic ever gets his dodge scanner updated.. Since the 3rd Gens the company has changed to Chevy trucks because the dodge frame does not work with service body kits. and we also rund gasoline/Natural gas dual fuel vehicles... Dodge doesn't offer a dual fuel set up..

Here's the sequence I typed up when I was putting info together on mine.
My dealer did it for free, and only took 10 minutes. It is worth paying the money if they charge you, but I don't see how it could take over 1/2 hr.
