So, what about the 4x2 trucks? Can I go from my 245/70/17 to a 265 or 285 without a lift and without losing any power? The rear gear is 3.73.

Yes, according to Discount Tire..........You can go up to a 285 tire on a 4 x 2 truck with no issues on rubbing etc., without a lift etc.

I'm leaning towards some 265/70-17 Dueler Revos as the reviews tend to be pretty good. Of people who have used both the comments tend to favor comments the Revos over the BFG ATs, but not always. My main concern is mileage on the tires.

The Revos are pretty soft tires, I wouldn't expect them to last as long as the others. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get cooper ATRs.

My 285 BFG were a good tire, but I found one odd thing with all the KO's that I've ran, the truck always seemed to pull to one side. I've had them on my 97 chev, pulled as soon as I put them on, alignments, rotations, nothing fixed it, same with the 03. I put my Nitto's on and bam, truck drives straight again. We'll see how the 295's hold out and what kind of mileage I get empty and towing this summer. The one thing I like is that they are QUIET!! Now I just have to shave some db's off the 5" exhaust.

I think I am going to give the Nitto Terra Grapplers 295-70R17 a try and they are about $20-30 per tire less than BFG but have great reviews.

I was running 315s on Hummer wheels and after about 50,000 miles I was tired of them and, yes, the gearing was a bit high for heavy towing. So I went to 285 BFGs on the same Hummer wheels and I love them. The truck just drives a little better. The 315s have some effect on steering and use more fuel. The gearing is about 5% lower with the 285s. Not much, but a bit. The 315s look cool, but the 285s are more practical for all around use.
