Timing Issue?

I just purchased a used 06 3500, 5.9L, G56 with PacBrake and 5" exhaust. It has been a hard starter even in mild (40*) temperatures. Today I was while idling I stepped on the accelerator and pushed it up to 2600 RPMs. At that RPM it started to miss and run rough. Does anyone think I may have a timing issue? If not what other suggestions are there? Thanks.

I don't think it's in your timing, I would start by checking your fuel filter and your fuel pressure. Hope this helps you, and would be nice if it was something simple for a change-right?

I agree either fuel filter or lift pump.

On an '06 I would bet you have a bad injector or 6. I had problems with mine starting at about 20K miles. I finally convinced the dealer to replace all 6 with the updated parts around 40K miles and have been great since. I am now at 123K miles.

Yeap, either a clogged fuel filter or bad injector or 6 as stated. Make sure you put a Fleetguard filter in just incase you have a warranty visit. Make sure it is the 7 Micron filter.

Took the truck to the local Dodge dealership today. After their inspection they say fuel pressure is fine but they detect one bad injector. They are giving me 6 new ones (engine still under warranty). Hope this does the trick. Thanks to all for your insight.

no doubt! I have been told by both dealers in this town that they would ONLY replace the bad injector. Getting authorized by dodge to replace all 6 was not going to happen. COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS and head to Vegas!

Well, I just picked up my truck at the dealer. 6 new injectors and it was 8 degrees when I went out to their parking lot and fired the truck right up without it being plugged in. All covered by warranty and no arguments. I was very pleased with the service at Bob Brady Dodge in Decatur, IL.
