think i need a Serpentine belt??
the past few days when i start my truck up for the 1st time that day, it has a squeking noise comin from the belt, but once i get goin up the road, it quits. but then i noticed on shut-off, the belt chirp is louder then usual. so, i tried belt dressing on it, and it still does it.. u think it could be something other then a belt even? so, should i take it to the dealer and get a belt, or any belts fine from auto shops? thanks

if I am not mistaken (having never done it I a probably am), there should be a tension adjustment for the belt. BUT I was just at my shop and they said that if the belt as 5 or more cracks per sq. inch, then you should replace it.
so you could try and adjust the tension to see if that fixes the problem, and then replace if necessary. that help at all?

The belt has no adjustment, it has an auto tensioner. Yes, I would look at the belt very closely. Alot cheaper than being on side of the road with a broken belt.

It's probably just a little more humid than normal, and will go away when the weather changes, but if you decide to change it, I've had good luck with Gates belts. Might want to consider changing the tensioner at the same time. Save the old one for an emergency backup. You should never use belt dressing on a serpentine belt.

I had a tensioner fail on a 93 Ford 7.3 CC Dually at midnight on I-65 90 miles north of Mobile AL a long time ago. My belt has 130K on it now and sometimes I hear a little noise right after lighting off when I pull away.
So, it might be the tensioner on your rig. If you look at the tensioner, it has an Indicator on it letting you know when either the belt has stretched or the tensioner is getting week. Might have to get a book for a complete explaination.
