Think have a leaking injector

Truck has been taking longer to start the last few days. It will usually cough out a cloud of black smoke when it finally starts.

Driving home tonight came to a stop light and had a strong diesel smell. Pulled into the driveway and notice an oil leak on the driveway. Looked under hood and the passengers side of engine block is covered in oil. The under side of the truck is also coated with oil. Not sure what side the oil bypass tube is located on this truck.

Starting to search for trouble shooting procedures. Any links to these issues that some of you might know how to find quicker would be helpful.

Here are the codes currently showing in the computer. Don't think any of these have anything to do with the injector issue.

p0107
p0341
p2502
p0622
p0073

Some of these are probably due to the charging issues i was having a couple weeks back. No CEL on at this time.

Pulled the dipstick and it seems over filled. Also remove plastic cover over the breather. There is a rubber fitting that connects to a metal pipe that goes down the drivers side. This rubber fitting is stretched and doesn't fit anymore. This seems to be where most the oil is leaking froom then running down the side and back of the motor. Looks like I will be getting new injectors.

This is both bad timing and good timing at the same time. I just bought a house so i'm a little bit cash poor at the moment, but also good timing that the truck held out until I have a place to work on it. Lived in an apartment complex the last 3 years. I think they would have frowned on me doing an injector swap in the complex parking lot.

Planning on spraying engine compartment with de-greaser tonight and thoroughly washing everything before tearing it down. It got a good steam cleaning from the Cummins shop in Oregon at it's first valve adjustment. It's also due for the 200k valve adjust.

Dont run it until you fix it and change oil...just a small amount of fuel in the oil can ruin the beast.

Yeah as soon as I discovered it I parked it. Not sure how long it had been leaking until it overflowed. Funny part, I had just added that line about 203k on original injectors to my sig line 2 days before.

Injectors aren't hard to do yourself. Specialty tools you'll need are a barring tool to turn the motor over (it's worth it), a set of feeler gauges and a torque wrench inch and foot pounds, probably some crows feet. You'll also need a crossover tube puller, but I made one out of a fuel fitting- you just need something with a female thread on it to pull the tube out that is the same size as the crossover tube threads.

That, and the torque specs and you're golden. I have the procedures, PM me if you need them.

I do have a copy of the factory service manual. Is this procedure in there?

Any recommendations on what injectors to get? OEM, slightly higher HP or fuel economy?

Trying to figure out the quickest way to get my truck back on the road. I know everyone is saying to just replace all 6 injectors at once. Unfortunately my bank account is having issues with available funds at the moment.

My question, will it be readily apparent which injector/s are bad with a visual inspection if I pull them all out?

Short answer, no. I had my '03's rebuilt by F1 and I have nothing negative to say about them. Compare warranty.
Back to morning brew . . .
