Thermostat

Today my water pump started to leak. Got a replacement from auto parts store for 60.00 dealer wanted 250.00 whats that about? Anyway got a thermostat and its a stant 195 deg and the one in the truck was 190 deg is it ok to be 5 deg higher? Stant number is 14289.

You really should try and get one from Cummins.Not saying that t-stat won't work but a good chance it will not perform its duties as well.Opening temp may vary,large temp fluctuations to name a couple.Was something wrong with the one in it?If it wasn't giving you a problem keep on using it.This just comes from my personal experience with other than Cummins t-stats.The only ones I have ever used that worked close to a factory one is the NAPA brand and I don't know who makes them.

ive had a stant 14289 on my 99 for 4 years now with no probs, idk if youve ever seen the caltherms they used to use but those were some hd thermostats. The cummins brand new in box that i have now looks to be identical to the stant. U wont notice anything different, plus thermostats arent exactly calibrated pieces. a 5 degree jump is nothing. Where on the island r u ? im in suffolk
