Thermostat

Ive seen people talk about the modded thermostats and was curious what the benefit to that was. Also, i need to replace mine and was wondering if I should get 180 or 190. Thanks.

people have been drilling holes and or taking the little "bells" out to help relieve coolant pressure when the t-stat is half closed or closed...to avoid blowing the rear freeze plug.....some guys with the holes drilled report really long warm ups......

Need a new one on a 06? Those things usually last years in these engines.Stick with factory temp wise.

I got a 180 back when Cummins still offered it. I was told it has been discontinued. You really don't want that in the wintertime because your truck will never reach operating temperature. It's really nice in the summertime though if you are pushing your truck hard or sitting in traffic. My temps stayed 10 degrees cooler than with the stock stat. I have had no reason to put it in the 07 as the temps stay nice and cool no matter what...

I had a brand new Mustang GT in 1995 that had a thermostat stick closed, cooked about all the water out before I noticed it was hot. Guage had been erratic for a few weeks before that. Yeah, I'd change it.
