Question Is there an exhaust brake for the 47RE trans?

I have read about the PacBrake and Jacobs Brake, and how they all work on the manual shift transmissions. I have an 03 CTD with the 47RE and I am wondering if there is an exhaust brake that will work with my truck. Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated as we just bought a new 11K 5th wheel so I am thinking the exhaust brake would be a real help in some of the mountains here in Oregon.

I think you would need to beef up your trans in order to run a brake. They offered them with the 48re but for some reason they stopped. They have been available, just not recommended for a stock 47re...

do a search on this site and over at tdr and you find MASSIVE discussions on ex. brakes for the autos.
THEY DO NOT WORK ON AUTOS. it ends up destroying the thrust bearing and associated parts and you end up eating the repair as dodge will not warranty an auto with a ex. brake.

This is an exerpt from an email from Cummins Inc. Direct Marketing:

"Experts at Dodge, Cummins and Jacobs Vehicle Systems jointly designed the Jacobs Exhaust Brake and it’s the only exhaust brake that Mopar endorses for the Dodge Ram. The Jacobs Exhaust Brake is backed by a comprehensive 3-year/100,000-mile (160,934 km) warranty on the exhaust brake assembly, with a 3-year/36,000-mile (57,936 km) warranty on all other kit components.

You can purchase the Jacobs Exhaust Brake as a dealer-installed option. Plus, you can even finance your exhaust brake with your new truck purchase. Ask for these part numbers at your Dodge dealer or Cummins distributor:

Model Year Cummins Part Number
2003-2004 (manual trans.) Cummins Part Number 4089427
2004.5 –2006 and later (includes 2006 automatic transmissions) Cummins Part Number 4955192 Mopar Part Number 82209823 "

That last post refers to the manual transmissions & the new 2006 48re tranny only. Dodge has done a program change for the 2006 year auto to work with exhaust brake.

I had an exhaust brake on my 2001 with auto. But, I had a beefed up tranny from DTT with a smart lock to lock up the torque converter. Without the lock up controller the exhaust brake is useless. I f you want to spend some $$ on your auto & get the controller she'll work fine.
