Thank goodness for fuel press gauge

If anyone is thinking about installing a fuel pressure gauge please read.

I installed a gauge using the Geno banjo bolt on the injector pump, post filter

I filled up this morning at a station I do not normally use. (Yellow fuel light was getting real annoying)
Got about 10 miles down the road and I noticed the fuel pressure was a little low.

Normal is 5lbs for cruising at highway speed (72)

Gauge read 4lbs

By the time I returned (about 500 miles) I could not use cruise as going up hill would cause fuel pressure to go to 0lbs.

Cruise on flat was 2-3 lbs

I guess I should mention I am not pulling a trailer, just me and my tools/spare parts.

If I had been pulling a trailer I would have probably burnt the injector pump up.

I had to go wot once while merging on interstate and it took several seconds for fuel pressure to come back up.

I just replaced the filter about 3300 miles ago.

Guess I'll be changing the filter tomorrow. Going to get a couple spares to carry in the truck.

Changing filter in dress pants (Dockers) and dress shirt should be fun.

I'll probably throw in a pair of coveralls just in case.

I don't think the moderators will want to divulge the name of the diesel station due to our societies rabid pack of slimy vultures (lawyers) and libel suits.

I will say it is at exit 259 on Interstate 80 in Iowa.

Once I confirm that it is the filter I am going to write a "love" letter to that particular company.

Probably won't do any good but make me fell better.

Without the gauge I would of had no idea.

I've got about 55k on my 04 and was starting to worry about my lift pump. I installed the DiPricol and was a little shocked to see it idle at only 5 cold, 7 hot. It was pretty easy to pull it down to near zero. Luckily my Fass11 came in a few days after the gauge install. 22 idle and she pull down to about 17-18 if I pour the coal to-er for a length of time. I just ran from Denver to Salt Lake and she is purring pretty good.

Does anyone know what the fuel pressure window on the CP3 for good life is? Is 22lbs to high?

Well, I take back most of what I said about fuel dealer.

I replaced fuel filter this morning and still low pressure.

Ended up adding holley blue pump down by tank.

How did you mount the pump? Did you bypass the stock lift-pump or did you run it in series w/a bypass loop to the CP3?

I mounted the pump to the frame basically under the drivers door.

I cut about 1.5 ft of metal tubing off and spliced in pump there.

I bought a stock pump eliminator bracket from scotty at

Right now there are in series, but I want o eliminate the stocker all together.

Part of your problem may also be running your tank near empty. The lift pump has to work alot harder than if the tank is full.

How cold was it outside? My truck did this one day when it was around 5 degrees outside. I was on the highway cruising at 70 mph and looked down to see 0 psi! I backed off a little and the best I could get was 2 psi that day. Once it warmed up the next day my psi was back up to the normal of 6-8psi. I believe the fuel was starting to gel from the cold. I have not had this problem since. These injector pumps can survive without positive pressure so you probably don't need to worry too much but a better pump definitely can't hurt anything. It's on my list too.......

It was about 40ish in the morning on the way therer and 70's on the way back. I use additives at every fill up so fuel should not be gelling.

Letting the tank get really low is hard on pump but I have only done that 5-6 times in the year I have owned the truck.

Got holley blue installed and ordered a stock pump eliminator bracket.

I have about $160 in the holley compared to $325 from cummins, dodge would not even discuss selling over the counter.

I'll probably blow by the 100K mile warranty in a couple of months, rather have a reliable holley under the truck than a crappy lp by the motor.

Also now my cost to replace pump is about $120 rather than >$300
