Texas laws exhaust

My wife is in Texas at school for a few months. She has a Cummins registered in IOWA. Can Texas police make her come in for a smog test?

She know she will fail it cause it all straight pipe. I really don't see how they can make her come in.

Any thoughts????????

I don't know about Texas but in SC if you are here for more than 30 days you are required to register your vehicle here.

I've never been smogged in my life, I don't think it would be a concern.

she is not considered a resident since she is in school. if their was a smog inspection she would not be required. the new law in texas states that you can not have straight pipes any more you will not pass inspection

She could probably run Iowa plates for an extended time without anyone noticing. Check the TX DPS website to conform the time frames for registration requirements. I hear alot of straight pipes on the road....I would stay out of the throttle though....just to avoid any possible heartburn regarding the federal requirements, not required in TX from what I understand. Make sure the Iowa registration and inspection for the vehicle is current. Smog tests are not required in Texas, gas or diesel, for sure.

Dont be so sure. I was in Cali for 9 months for military school and was required to get inspection even though I have Montana Plates. It is an agreement between Comiefornia and the military bases....

I worked in Texas for well over a year while running my Illinois tags, I had no trouble.

BWAY,

Is your wife still in the Corp.? If so it doesn't matter. She only has to follow the rules for where it is registered. The only other stipulation I can think of is base decals, but the only place that is really a stickler on that is the bases in Cali.

what is required in by federal goverment on their base is different the only cities that have any smog issues is the larger ones houston dfw and maybe el paso. we do not have any emission testing required other then visual inspection during a safety inspection which we do every year
