Synthetic ATF

Should I change the ATF to synthetic on my new truck? I do a lot of heavy towing, It only has 1,200 miles on it.
I have a new 5 gal. can of Chevron senthetic sitting here.

ATF+4 is a syn.Leave it alone and ask back at 15 or 20k.Its brand new for gosh sakes.Drive it awhile.Changer the oil and filter first time at 3k and drive it some more.

2005 4x4 Dually to pull my 40" Weekend Warrior to haul my 19' long turbocharged Hayabusa Quad

Does that quad fold up to fit into 40 inches?

I agree, The only reason I asked is that the trans shop here said it is better to do on a new trans than to wait until it had miles on it.
Thats why I am here asking the pro's.

I've wondered this myself. I'd want to put the best fluid in I can. And their appears to be some debate on ATF+4 and the alternates.

One thing that caught my attention is that many of the fluids claim to be universal. Which strikes me as odd, why would they come up with a unique fluid if there was one fluid that fits all? In some cases, like my Ford, they say that the two fluids are very different, and not to interchange them. Yet AMSOIL says "universal".

For my first change, and probably em all, I'll stick with the factory stuff. Seems to work well.

Do what? Its brand new for Petes sake.Back in the DARK ages of cars and trucks I guess that helped them live until 50k if that.It calls for ATF+4 not a Delco what not.First service on it at earlyist is 30k.Real early is 15k.

I am having shifting problems with mine right now. I swapped the pan and filter and topped off with amsoil universal atf back at 20k and now at 32k it is giving me problems. I contacted the dealer and he told me that the first thing I HAVE to do is pay to get it flushed at the dealer. Then if the problem continues we will go from there. I asked the service manager if I could pay the difference and get an aftermarket (bd) tranny swapped in if mine goes. He told me that he will do some digging and get back to me.

I can tell you now D.C.won't swap nothing for a aftermarket, besides it would have to be totaled.Service manager might let his trans man installed the aftermarket parts in a rebuild if you buy them. Then warranty will be void through D.C. etc.

My last truck was a 2001 F250 4x4, I put lots of money in it with Mag hytec trans pans and an ATS tranny cooler, Chip, LP, 4" Exhaust, Brake, ETC. I think I am just going to leave this one alone and just drive it.

My 01 also had ATF+4. I switched to Amsoil and the temperature went down quit a bit. In fact one time I just finished plowing "The driveway to heaven"(Uphill for 300ft then right bend and up another 200 feet. I set the parking brake and crawled under the truck and touched the tranny oil pan and it was just warm/hot. I could keep my hand on it as long as I wanted.
Before that, just driving the pan was to hot to even touch!
I will be replacing my ATF+4 with Amsoil before this plow season.
