Stumbles after Starting

I normally start my truck & take off right away. Very often about 5 seconds sfter I start the truck stumbles - the engine just about dies, but theres enough momentum where the engien restarts. When this happens it just about throws me into the winshield. It's getting pretty annoying. I'm still under warrenty & have no mods, but know if I take it in the dealer 'they will not be able to repeat the problem'.

Anyone else have this problem? What's causing it?

All you can do is try with the dealer. Make sure you leave the vehicle overnight with them so they have similar conditions to duplicate with. Next leave them detailed instructions of what you do when it happens, include outside temp, vehicle temp, How long you let it run for before driving off, what speeds, how much throttle, and anything else that you can think of that is relavent.

They may not be able to duplicate it but if they have enough info to know how to duplicate thay can at least try the same conditions, may know what they problem is or at the very least it is documented so if the problem worsens or happens out of warranty you will have a decent chance of getting it fixed.

The worst thing as a tech is getting an RO that says only 'vehicle stumbles'. The tech then usually goes and asks the Service writer what they mean by 'stumbles' and when, how, etc. The answer is usually, "I don't know, the customer just said it stumbles" and the obvious answer to 'did you ask them any more info, like when, how and such' they reply is "No, I don't usually have time for that" or " I didn't think it needed any more explanation".

If I take my own truck in I usually tell the service writer the problem as well as leave a polite note on the seat for the tech so they don't have to question the service writers interpretation.

Hope it helps,

I have a similar prob when I don't do any warm up. If I wait about 30 seconds after start up it typically goes away. Might be related to the air heaters in the system I've been told. Another possibility is the tps.

I 've gotten used to a little warm up even though I'm in norcal and cold is typically around 40 degrees.
