Stock U-joint, how far did you get?????
I've replaced them all at least twice except for the front at the hubs only once there. They started going out at about 50k and lasted for about 40k afterwards except for greasables which lasted for 60k. Now when I replace one on anyshaft I replace them all as the labour is way more than greasable ujoints. I now replace all three or four and get the shaft balanced at the same time. I've replaced them myself but for $100 to replace and balance and $100 for 4 joints it is cheaper and faster to have a drive train guy do it. The $100 deductible is a joke. When I went to the dealer they would only replace one and do a hundred deductible. The last time they beotched when I made them leave the workorder open.....a month later they replaced the other two. Even then I got the same crappy joints back.....Go aftermarket Spicer Originals and keep them greased and you will get 60+k miles on them if you tow heavy or launch hard. If you are going through alot of rear ujoints then get a set of traction bars and they will last forever. ks
Just turned 33,500 miles and started hearing a squeaking noise when I backed up slowly. Going forward, didn't hear it. I could back up, hear it, slip it into 'N' and coast and the noise would go away.
Warranty for 1st U-joint in the rear was for FREE.
Bonus was that they didn't do the HONK HONK HONK safety recall this time around. So YIPPEE...for now at least.
Though this was the first time truck has gone back to dealer for anything. I try to do my own warranty work. U-Joint was a dealer only item and would've cost $89 to purchase if I wanted to fix myself. So I let them do it this time around. Maybe by next time, Napa or someone else might have a REAL greaseable U-joint I could purchase around here.
