Still surging

Still having a problem with the truck surging badly at constant highway speeds, light loads, around 65 mph. Today the truck surged so badly it almost caused a truck behind me to hit me I slowed down so much. So back to the dealer. This time I was close enough to take it to my hometown dealer. This is the third dealer to look at this. First didn't find anything, second didn't find anything but re-flashed the computer (just in case, he said)
and today the third one said I had a bad TPS.

It only happens when keeping a very moderate speed and I usually have to be on the highway for at least 30 minutes before it happens. Today it felt like someone just killed the fuel instantly.

So, does anyone think the TPS could cause this type of behavior? Otherwise, the truck seems to run great, pulls great and there is no other apparent loss of power.

Thanks, mark

The TPS could cause it for sure yes. Most of the time you will get a check engine light when their is a TPS problem but not always. Their were some problem I know with the first 03's and the TPS sensors. If I remember right it was with some that were mounted under the battery and not on top of the motor(where they are now). I thought that had to do with a sticking throttle though...

hmmm... thanks for the response. Today was by far the most severe incident yet. I forgot to mention it but today for the first time I got a check engine light. So it sounds like you are on it. I hope this is the whole problem and not a second problem that just occured.

Now that I think some more I have a friend with a 99. His is doing exactly what you are saying. It would just let off like you took your foot off the gas and he would have to pull over to the side of the road and it would sit their and idle and the gas pedal would do nothing. Shut it off and restart and would work fine. Got a TPS from the junk yard and all was well.

Thanks, I have to make a four hour trip tommorrow and make it back on friday. The part wasn't in stock. Service writer (who didn't know what a TPS was) told me it wouldn't leave me stranded...

I asked the service manager about it to see if he would rather provide me a vehicle. he said he was confident I wouldn't get stranded. Hopefully he is right. if not it could be a heck of a tow bill for them.
