still stalling
still stalling
hey guys, could the fuel pressure relief valve on the pump cause an intermittent stall? This thing is driving me nuts, the only code I have is P0602 which may have been there ever since the day I bought it, not really positive.
doesn't do it at start up. does it when you lift off the accelerator and put take it out of gear coming up to stop signs. when the rpms come down they just keep falling. sometimes it stalls, sometimes it just shakes and revs back up to 900-1000 rpm, sometimes its fine. doesn't do it every time and temperature has no effect on it.
Fuel filter plugged? What year truck? Any mods? Filling out your sig would help us out a little...

Those codes will clear after so many key cycles. I'll take a peek and see what that code means...

Symptom:
P0602-CHECKSUM ERROR
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P0602-CHECKSUM ERROR
When Monitored: While the ignition is on.
Set Condition: A deviation between the ECM memory and a stored calibration.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
FLASH ECM
ECM
TEST ACTION APPLICABILITY
1 Using the DRBIIIt, reflash the ECM with the proper calibration for the particular
truck.
Is the flash successful?
All
Yes ! Repair complete.
No ! Go To 2
2 With the DRBIIIt, read DTCs.
Did P0602 set after the reflash?
All
Yes ! Replace the ECM.
No ! Test Complete.
That ain't cool...

All I have for mods is straight pipe and edge juice with attitude, code sets with or without edge system on the truck. Fuel Filter is new. Thanks Madhat, that's kinda what I'd seen for info on that code too but never from the factory manual. Grrrrr
I would disconnect both batteries and reset the ECM... Let them sit for about 20 minutes, then ground out the system by pushing the brake, turning the key on... something like that.
Hook it back up and see. I don't think this is the solution, but I've seen it work for worse problems. It's free, too. Clean those battery terminals and look at the engine ground while you're at it. Bad connections can cause a lot of problems.
Looks like you might be taking it into the dealer, tho...

Well I dropped it off at the dealer last night at midnight, almost crushed a car when it stalled in a parking lot Monday morning. It hadn't ever stalled in a parking lot before and losing steering at slow speeds is pretty uncontrollable. I'll post what we figure out when I hear from them.
I had the dealer take a look at it. the rail pressure was fluctuating more than it should. They said the spec is under 500 psi at idle/constant load and throttle. Mine was over 1500 psi fluctuation. Replaced the fuel quantity solenoid P/N 5183245aa. Diagnosis, parts and labor was under $400. I think the part itself was around $170. Thanks for all the help guys, hopefully this thread helps others.
