You can pressure test the coolant system to see if you have any leak down. Not necessary will you see leaks outside the engine and in the oil. I could be going out the exhaust!

I know that this sounds like a odd question, but are you still smoking when it get that hot?
its possible you're not getting enough air into the engine (too much fuel). Possible a boot leak or plugged air filter or turbo (doubtful with low mileage 55k).
Do you have an EGT gauge? Has it been running hotter lately?

Assuming you are really running that hot and the coolant system checks out OK (including thermostat and water pump) go find a dealer to take a ride with you and their star scan or DRB tool. This tool can measure transmission slip. If nothing else is found, then I bet it is the trans or torque converter slipping.

If you just flushed your rad, you might have a trapped air pocket in the coolant path. I don't know much about this subject, but I hear about this problem a lot just after people flush the rad.

Mark,
I hear about that a lot with the VW diesels too. The fix is usually to run it, then let it cool completely to ambient, then check coolant level. That's usually all that's needed.

I think that the big thing with that is people drain the rad, and when they fill it, they don't get it to operating temp (let the t-stat open) before they finish topping it off.
I could be wrong on this, I'm not exactly sure when the overheating started.
Critter:
Was the truck running hot in the first place, so you flushed it, then it was still running hot, so you changed the fan? Or, did you flush it, and then it started running hot?
Could be a stuck t-stat, trash in the rad, possibly a HG, but unless you have coolant in the oil, oil in the coolant, or coolant on the side of the block, I would leave that as a last resort. (I believe it's still possible that it would be a HG problem even if none of those signs were present.)
Keep posting up, we'll figure it out.
