Steering feels like its stuck in 4x4

Just this morning my steering feels like it is stuck in 4x4. When turning the steering wheel is pretty jerky, the slower the worse it is. I have the manual transfer case shifter and checked the linkage under the truck it moves at the transfer case. Could it be something else or did the linkage come undone in the case? Any other way to check this? thanks

Did you check your PS fluid level?

I did but it was hot, the level on the dipstick looks like it should be checked when cold so I will check in the morning.

Turn the steering wheel to full lock and drive forward slowly - if you're in 4WD, you'll feel the truck lurch forward quite a bit through the front wheel universals.

If you do the above mentioned procedure in a gravel parking lot, you'll feel and hear the front tires scratching gravel.

Probably axle U joints. I would check them first. When they bind up they can get real jerky.

With the wheels straight, try and wiggle the shafts coming from the diff. Also look for rust around the cap's seal - on the inside edge. 2 key places to look for wear.
