Batteries, Mine were same green dot little corroison on post, change em out and its a world of difference, once batteries start corroding its from inside and working its way out. this tells you battery is going to be history.

My first indication to needing batteries in the near future, was the longer cranks in warm weather. And on tues niether diesel would start,04 2500 or the 82 vw

Ok, I will try to buy two new batteries on the way home tonight.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a nice day so I am going to install the AirDog.

I will do the temp tests on the grid heater and exhaust.

All good ideas, thanks!

I don't mind the idea of getting the F1 Mach 1 tips, but I don't what to be with out the truck a week if I don't have to. Also I would be disappointed if I did it to fix this problem and it didn't.

Has anyone taken there truck to a Cummins shop? I have no faith in my new dealer after they told me the flash or their lift pump would correct this problem. There where no test listed on the receipt.

Without testing your batteries you could throw parts at it and never find the problem. Could simply be batteries getting weak. Know of a few people with different diesels and this was their problem.

You could try boosting it before you buy the batteries. See if you get a change. I'm inclined to agree with the above comments tho'.

Well it wasn't the batteries, I don't feel bad about replacing them though, they were looking rough, more corrosion than I thought and the sides were bulging a bit (could have always been like that). They were six years old.

Testing the heater grid with IR temp was a great idea, it read 18 before and 80 after three cycles.

And as expected it was not the lift pump. I got the AirDog installed, that's not a bad job, but I am very dissatisfied with the location, the fuel filter is now the lowest part on the truck; that has to be changed.

So what else should I consider/test before replacing the injectors? From what I have read, except from not starting, I don't have they symptoms of bad injectors.

I looked at the manifold temps after the truck had rested an hour and idled for while, they ranged from 170 - 200. I will do this today with more heat in it.

Are there any good write-ups on the injector replacement job?

Thanks!

From working on VWs years ago this sure sounds like a compression problem. I would check it before throwing more money at the problem.
