So, heres the deal with my truck to help clear up any confusions.

The Front AXLE U-Joints are: SPICER 5006813

The rear shaft takes a 1410 series at each end: SPICER 5-801X

The front shaft takes a 1330 series at the pinion: SPICER 5-795X

The two at the CV are a 1350 series: SPICER 5-799X

*Note: the book called for AAM 1355 series mfg by Neapco in the CV. Got them special ordered in, thinking they were mfg in USA. WRONG. Made in China. So we checked them against the Spicer, and they were an exact match on the cross width (3.625") and get this, the Spicer life series were $10 cheaper per joint!

A tip when the CV is apart, the small bearing in the swivel has small needles just like the caps... I used a small piece of 1/2" stock to keep them from falling out during the extrication and installation of the other U-joints. You can see the needle port for the grease fitting in the 3rd pic, and the 1/2" stock in the bearings 4th pic.

I had a bit of a tough time with the front shaft pinion yoke. The Torx head bolts are crap. They are a T40 size. I have since replaced them with a M8x1.25x35mm Socket Head Cap Screws that has a 12.9 class rating (higher than grade 8) and grade 8 flat and lock washers. They fit perfect, and with a standard 6mm allen wrench, got them plenty tight. See 2nd pic. Plan to fill the cap with a silicone sealant to prevent rust and dirt, that way I can just dig that out when it comes time to service it again...

Hope this clears up some of the part numbers and what you need for a good bolt going back in to the front pinion flange.
Old thread but good info! How were you able to determine the correct u-joints? Trying to find the right part numbers for the rear 2 piece driveshaft u-joints. Thanks!

Question and an update

2-Stroke,
Thanks for the info. I’m about to replace all 7 u-joints on my ’05 4x4 short bed (along with replacing wheel hubs with TImkens and ball-joints with Dynatracs). This thread was a huge help in finding the correct Spicer part numbers.

Seeing as it’s been close to 5 years now, how have the Spicer Life series held up in your truck? I’m trying to decide if I want to go with the Lifes or with the greaseables. I think I'm leaning towards the Life's, but curious how they've held up for you.

For anyone else trying to cross-ref the correct P/N’s for the Spicers, here are the updated numbers for both the Lifes and the greaseables…

2x Front Axel: 1.375” length, 2.920” cup diameter, Inside Snap Ring
.......Lifes - 5006813
.......(no greaseables available)

2x Rear Shaft (short bed, one piece shaft): 1410 Series - 4.188” length, 1.188” cup diameter, Outside Snap Ring
.......Lifes – 5-1410x (replaces obsolete 5-801x). This kit comes with multiple snap ring sizes for easier installation.
.......Greaseables – 5-160x

1x Front Shaft, front joint at pinion: 1330 Series - 2.556” length, 1.125” cup diameter, Inside Snap Ring
......Lifes – 5-795x
......Greaseables – 5-3147x

2x Front Shaft, center/rear joint at CV: 1350 Series – 3.625” length, 1.188” cup diameter, Outside Snap Ring
.......Lifes – 5-1350x (replaces obsolete 5-799x). This kit comes with multiple snap ring sizes for easier installation.
......Greaseables – 5-178x

Also, my CV is not stamped with AAM, so maybe there is a difference there...

I Installed or attempted to install them but realized they were wrong after I could only get one keeper on each side. It appears that I may need the 1355 u joints for the AAM shaft?
So after a little more research, I've learned that you are both correct. Our trucks randomly either have AAM or Spicer components in the front shaft. If it is Spicer, then the 5-1350x will work. If it is AAM components, then you need the specific 1355 series which is .013" shorter. Spicer part number for the 1355 series u-joint is 5-3208x and measures correctly at 3.612".

Wow, 5 years since I posted this! That's just crazy!

Im estimating I had around 170,XXX miles on the truck when I swapped. I now have 292,XXX miles on my truck, and still the same U-Joints since the original post and have had no problems with them at all. They have been flat out awesome.

This has been an ongoing problem with my installs on all three brands of trucks. Everyones U joints seem to all be getting fatter over the last year. was using all the same part numbers for years. and years
On one Duramax the AC Delco joints wouldn't fit. And last week did a job using Spicers on an 06 Dodge, didn't quite fit, so just went and got Mopar joints, and they were way worse! the Dodge dealer parts manager said they'd been having fit issues so wasn't just me. Ended up notching the yoke til the Spicers fit.

Would the ones mention above fit my 07 mega cab?

I read that the front takes the 5006813 #2 of them. What about rear drive shaft would they be the 5-3207x? Which ones would the front shaft take? I looked and read this thread but I just want to make sure I get the right ones. Thank you in advance.
