South Bend Clutch help

Its beyond time for me to replace my oem G56 DMF and clutch assembly (150K). I have read through several posts on converting to the SB SMF clutches, but have become confused on which one I need for daily driving and occasional <15K towing.

Please help simplify;

Which South Bend Clutch do I need and why?

I would call Peter @ SouthBend and ask him. Got a DD from them earlier this year and they were great answering my questions.

G56-OFEK would be my choice for a SB clutch.
It's good for 450 hp, 900 ft. lbs. torque and is a single disc.

I am also looking at the Perfection clutch P/N NNC MU521791SK available at NAPA and Advance auto parts. Seems like a way less expensive way to go and it has some good reviews.

Any suggestions?

Just got my truck back today from the shop. I had a G56-OK clutch installed. I tow a fifth wheel with my truck {12,500#}with the stock clutch that was in it, it started to slip when pulling a hill with any grade to it. I was told that the new clutch would solve the problem. This new clutch is a single disc. I got a new fly wheel, hydrallics, throw out bearing, and pressure plate. I also had them change out the rear seal and install a new shift boot. I haven't towed with it yet. That will happen on March 10th.
To my amazement the old clutch didn't look that bad but under a load it slipped. This clutch I had put in is not a radical clutch but one that will be fine for towing and driving. No noise coming from it at all just a lower release point. I paid $1800.00 for the job. With a 12/12 warranty on parts and labor. So far so good but I have only put maybe 75 miles on it. The proof will be in the pudding. Hope this helps you out in deciding.

Go to south bend and tell them what you want your clutch to do and they will help you out and they send a new fly wheel and all parts need.

Thanks for that. I looked up the "O" type clutch and this may be a decent selection for me as well.

Looking forward to your tow reports. I'm somewhat fanatical about letting out the clutch with engine at idle, and then applying fuel. Hate grabby clutches.

Tow lighter (6k) and moderate (9k).

Pulled my trailer back to Missouri from Oregon and back. The only problem I had was a clatter when in reverse. It would bounce really hard at any small incline. I called South Bend and they said to put it in four wheel drive low when backing up {don't know what the two wheel drive 6 speed guys do}. As of yet I have not tried this. Reason the problem occured was because of the 373 gear ratio so putting it in 4 low should help out the ratio. I will update again after trying this suggestion.

250k miles of doing that and no ill effects makes backing a trailer a joy and with a hub kit its even easier
