Smelly cab, read on............
All vehicles will draw in fresh air when the controls are set ot fresh air. That established, if the conditions exist(wind, etc.) you can draw exhaust and other gasses in your truck. Now I'm not saying the Blow By fumes are acceptable to inhale...But they are right under the vehicle. I extended my hose and problem was gone. You will smell exhaust if the wind is blowing foward of the truck and your dial is set on anything but Recycle. I've had plenty of old beaters (when I was a Kid) that would roll you out of the vehicle with heat on from smell of worn out motor exhaust rolling out of the dual tail pipes!
I know this thread has been going on for awhile but here's my latest. I went in to the dealer last week for an oil change. Asked the service advisor what was the status of the Diesel Odor fix, he gave me a blank stare and said it was in Dodge's hands. So I called Dodge when I got home and you can guess what they said, it's in the dealer's hands.
Got back on the phone to the dealer service manager, and launched into him on this problem and the lack of attention they and Dodge are paying to it. He got back to me rather quickly with the following actions Dodge said to try. 1st, I was to use approved replacement oil, he agreed that the oil they used for this oil change was the acceptable oil. 2nd, I'm using the wrong diesel fuel and I should try to get a better grade. Since I had a half of a tank of fuel, the smell wasn't as bad before the oil change and I'm burning the same fuel, that couldn't be it, the SM agreed and besides where do I go for better diesel. 3rd, and I really liked this one, Dodge gave the SM a part number for “Lemon Scented Oil Additive” to help mask the problem. The SM said this make him laugh.
He asked that I bring the truck in tomorrow, with the printout of the fix from this thread and he’ll try it. So maybe it will be better tomorrow, or I’ll have my new Lemon Scented Oil tomorrow.

Forget the dealer and extend the breather hose it's like a 10 dollar fix takes an hour if you are slow and will fix almost all the smell.
I only get a wiff of smell every now and then like I would expect.
I did the cowl fix and it helped some but not as much as the breather hose extension.

Well no lemon scented additive, yet. The dealer is trying a new hood seal (not sure if that will help but I do think a new one is needed) and another PCV valve.
Was extending the breather hose a TSB?

I'll tell you this is a crazy problem, I have had the smelly cab when sitting at light for over a year. It wasn't till I hit 18,000 miles that it finally went away.
I first tried the breather extension, I went back to the rear axle. Then it was the oil, I have had three oil changes and again it wasn't that....Now, when the engine I guess is finally broken in, it went away?
I would try the breather extension, it can't hurt and it is easy to do. Try the cowl seal also, I did that and it did nothing. I took some pipe insulation and draped it over the factory seal, in effect raising it 3/4" which really made close contact between the hood and the seal. But it may work for you.

They might have fixed the problem!
I complained to the Service Manager at the dealership and told him I was tired of the run-around I was getting from Dodge, I gave him a copy of the Fix that’s been posted here and he said he’d look into it. As it turns out, he found a semi-official Dodge fix (he said semi-official means pre-TSB) for the problem. He ordered the parts, flapper seals and cowling tape, installed it about two weeks ago and NO MORE SMELL. I used to be able to make the problem happen by just turning on the outside vent at a stop light. So far I’ve been driving everywhere with the vent on, trying to make it smell and so far so good. Time will tell but I’d contact your dealer’s Service Manager and ask for the fix.
p.s. No Lemon sented oil additive (see previous post)

It's nice to see that our efforts here finally got noticed. I better get to the dealer and see if I can now order those flapper seals. Last time in they said "We can't order that" I wasn't expecting to hear something like that for at least 7 years.
