Another solution is to re-route the breather hose. One guy on the TDR routed it back to his air box I like that idea except the icing of the vapor and the risk of oil vapor gumming up the air-filter and or inter-cooler.

I am planning on plugging the HVAC cowling holes and extending the breather hose, but I do agree DC needs to adress this issue it seems to be worse on 3rd gens.

Oil smell disappeared at 7500 miles and never has come back? I kind of miss it.

Has anyone had a dealer resolve this concern? If so can you tell me what they did?

Thanks

They tell you to turn the HVAC to recirculation when you are stopped....and hey diesels are supposed to smell.....

The breather hose extension is something else I will look into when the weather warms.

No restriction in airflow to the cab whatsoever. All the "fix" does is force the air to come in through the top of the cowl where it is supposed to.

Tried the cowl fix and thought it helped...then next day cough gasp. Then on Tuesday I ran the 3/4" heater hose from the breather tube waaaaay back by the fuel tank...STILL NO FIX. I'm getting ****** now.
The fella posting on here from Transport Canada spoke with me and I was just doing the breather tube fix when I talked to him.
So far no fix.

When I put the truck on recirc the windows start to fog and theres no circulation of air fresh air in the cab.

Why are we fixing this stuff on new trucks?

Yeah I still get fumes in the cab too. CO readings are low but the smell is bad.

I love the smell of fresh diesel burning in the morning. It smells like, well like victory. Just kidding. I think we may just have to live with a liitle of the smell. They are diesels. At least we don't have to put up with the rotten egg smell of the catalytic converter on the gassers. Mine certainly is not as bad as the cab-over Pete I use to drive. It is you guys with the excessive smell that worries me, which DC does need to address.

24 Cummins Rams since 89 and never ever had this much of a smell.
I like the smell of diesel too. This is just too extreme to be normal or acceptable. My 01 was heavily modified and never had anything like this 04. Its like putting the truck in the shop and letting it run for ten minutes with no ventilation. The shop is not large.
DC whats it gonna take to do something?

Question

Can anybody that has had a 2001 or 2002 tell us 2003's what the difference is in how the air path to the cab is?

Also, what is the difference in the blow-by tube setup?

If it is only the 2003's that are having the problem, we should be able to find out what the changes were, and how to modify our trucks ourselves and fix this problem.
