Sluggish shifting??

I just got my truck about 3 days ago and dont really know everything I think I should.. But right now my main concern is how slow they shift.. Is this normal? I came from driving a Camaro so I understand how I could possibly think that there is something wrong.. When I floor it it takes off nice but it feels like it falls on its face before it shifts and sits at 3K for a second. Sometimes it even felt like it shifted an extra gear and then down shifted again while the pedal was still to the floor.

How about telling use what year truck you have, 4x4 or 2x4? You see they made several changes over the years so that means they don't all have the same tranny.

When I want crisper harder shifts (both up and down) I put it into Tow/Haul mode and it feels like it is just slamming gears. When not in tow/haul mine feels a little sluggish but not much in any case I am not worried about it - the truck just seems to eat up the road as it goes down it. One thing I had to get use to was, at least on mine, when you are doing 65-70 MPH and put your foot into it to pass there is no passing gear - you just feel the power of the engine making more power as you blow by the vehicle you are passing (plus a little smoke as it goes fro 65 to 85 in a heartbeat).

How many miles are on the truck? If buying used, the tranny could've been overworked. My tranny runs okay, but it was much crisper when it was new. I've got 100,000 miles on my truck now, with about 1/3 of them towing my skid/steer with attachments which, with the trailer, weighs about 12,000+ pounds. I've also been running a box on the low setting with occasional runs on the mid and high settings. I know that I definitely need to get a new torque converter and valve body at the very least. But, it runs, and in the winter I hardly do any towing, so for now I'm letting it go. I hope to upgrade the tranny here in the next two months.
