Skeptical about 06 mega cab

I need to move to a quad cab or crew cab due to another child on the way. So I went to the Dodge dealer last night since they are just about giving away the 08 1500's. While talking to the salesman he tells me he has a 06 5.9 mega cab with about 35K he just took in on trade. He said it was in prep but he would have it back tomorrow(today) or the next day. I told him I would like to see the service history of the truck. I know Ford has an OASIS report that tells you the service/warranty history of the truck. His response was that he could get me a carfax report to tell me if its been damaged or in a accident but as far as service I should know that they are servicing the vehicle thoroughly. It will be in tip top shape when they sell it. He seemed very evasive about letting me have a service history report. This really left a bad taste in my mouth. If I get the VIN# are there any Dodge techs on here that can get me a report?

probably a newer salesman, car lots turn and burn pretty regularly so you just need to go see the service manager, he can pull it up for you. With 35k on it I doubt there is anything wrong with it.

Well when they are done preping it take a look at it, make sure nothing underneath looks like brand spanking new compared to the rest. I bought my 06 used with exactly the same miles and it runs tip top.

I bought a Mega cab as I have two growing sons, 12 and 9. We just finished a marathon road trip from Maryland to south Florida and back and I have to say it was a very good purchase with all the extra room to stretch out. You'll love it (unless you need to park in a parking garage in the city).

I would look at the car fax to make sure it hasn't been wrecked or something like that.

Get underneath it and look around for anything that doesn't look normal.

Take it for a good long drive in various situations, and if you have a mechanic you can trust, either take him along or see if you can drive it to where he's at so he can look it. Two sets of eyes are better than one.

Even ask them if you can "test drive" it for the weekend or something.

You can't wrong with the MegaCab if you need a sweet truck to haul more people than stuff in your bed.

The "Report" is indeed available from any CDJ dealer as long as they have a connection to Chrysler's "Dealer Connect" The sales folks may not have access to that portion of the program but the Service department certainly does.

You want to ask for the "VIP" report for the vehicle in question. It contains the options installed as well as any Dealer service history. It will also tell you what warranty particulars are covered. The Finance folks in the Dealership should also be able to get it for you

Love my 06' Mega.
I couldn't go wrong buying new cause i got 0% on mine. 30k and the only problems i've had is the AC blend door, multi-function switch, and the dual mass flywheel. All covered by warranty. I don't drive it real hard but pull heavy with it regularly. Very good truck and perfect for my family of four.

Is this the Megacab club thread?????

Megas are sweet but they really need bigger tires to make them look just right. I have 285s and I wish I would have gone to something larger. Other than that it's the perfect truck. Well, I found one with every stinkin option Dodge makes so i should be happy...

Definitely ask to see the VIP report. I looked at a used 06 Mega before I got mine. It was loaded and ran and drove just fine. Very nice indeed. When I had RatlRatl run the VIN for me we found a slew of transmission issues and the truck had been redflagged for any further trans repairs under warranty. It didn't say it would not be covered but Chrysler would definitely get involved if the truck came back in with a trans issue. The truck had obviously been BOMBed too because they did a crappy job deleting the CAT and the whole exhaust was loose. It also had the sticker of every mod the guy had done on the back window.... I still almost bought it because it was $12,000 less than I paid for my new 08. I'm glad I passed though...

I went in to my local dealer the week after I purchased my 06. The shop foreman printed me the VIP report and handed it over without me even asking for it. He said I should have it so I could see the service history and remaining warranty coverage.

Mega cab is too big for me, but I have no booger pickers to cart around.

My 2006 is a solid, good running truck. I had the blend door go, took a while to get it fixed, but that really was a dealer issue. I had the rail pressure P-0191 code early on, and the belt-chirp/alt belt pully replaced. Other than those very small problems, the truck has been a great vehicle.
