silencer ring?
Yes, If you take off the air filter tube where it connects to the turbo you will see it. To remove it, just get a small screwdriver and pop the "O" ring out. There is a small gap in the "O" ring. really easy. This will make the turbo sound louder and get rid of the "chuffing" sound that occurs sometimes in the 48RE when it shifts into OD while under heavy throttle.....

Hay 800 summitt .4" pvc will not work to small O.D. However if you use two couplings with a 4"pvc to connect the the two it will work. I know I did it today. Lowes $1.40 each and 4"pvc for in the middle then glue it cut extra off each end and paint it black for looks make sure to clean all the littel pvc peaces out

I just popped the silencer tube out and could not figure out how the "+" shaped silencer mechanism comes out. Sitting on the bench, I could not see any O-ring inside the tube. I'm quite mechanically inclined, but this one has me stumped.
Can anyone go into more detail of the removal procedure?

Once that is out of the way look in the turbo and you'll see the turbine blades. In front of them is a metal ring that looks like a flared piece of metal directing air into thte turbo. Thats not what it does, just looks like it.
That ring is the silencer ring. It is held in with a metal snap ring. He snap ring has a slight gap where the two ends of it meet. You will need one, perhaps two very narrow flat tip screw drivers. You must work one end out and with the other screw driver hold it out and work your way around. When the snap ring is out the silencer ring will be easily removed.
BE VERY CAREFULL TO REMOVE ANY METAL FILINGS RESULTING FROM TRYING TO GET THE SNAP RING OUT. THESE CAN RUIN THE TURBO
Good luck.
Can't figure it out. Call me: 864-414-5004.

I went back out before you guy s replied and found it. I assumed it was the stuff in the hard plastic intake tube...never took the elbow off the turbo. Once I did that, it still took a minute ot find what you guys were refering to. Here I'm looking for a stinking rubber O-ring when in reality it's a metal SNAP RING.
Gonna take it out for a cruise to see what if any difference I can hear.
