Question Shift points during fast acceleration...

Whenever I get on the go-pedal pretty aggresively, from idle speed, say from 0 MPH to 60 MPH, shifting is pretty smooth up until the last gear, then it seems to shift almost twice inside of 5 MPH (happens when I hit ~50 MPH), or maybe it's slipping(???) but I doubt that.

Maybe it's a passing gear that only kicks in at elevated RPM's at that speed?

Anyone ever notice this? After I get past that funny last shift it smooths out. It doesn't grind at all but when that happens the tach spikes up a bit and winds for a second and then settles, that's why it seems almost seems like a slip.

If I accelerate with normal speed (not as fast) from 0-60 I never notice it. It shifts up through the gears with no double-shift.

Anyone ever experience this?

Thanks alot,

DT.

When accelerating hard it shifts into 3rd, then you get converter lockup, immediately followed by a shift to fourth. The lock up and shift to fourth is what you are feeling close together.

Thanks Strick.

Just wanted to make sure nothing was busted.

That sounds exactly right.

Mine does too. I always thought it was the converter slipping.

Is there anyway to smooth out that lockup and shift into 4th?

should have got a 6 speed, then you will know why it is shifting.
