shaking and backfire

The other day i was on the highway pulling the boat back from the lake when the truck started to shake. When i came to a stop truck was shaking really bad, put it into nuetral and it calmed down a little. Pulled into the nearest plaza to check things out and could'nt find any leaks, no white smoke or excessive black smoke, and everything was intacted. So i drain the water seperator and primed the engine and no different. When i would pull out it would sputter and backfire. So decided to limp it home when waiting at a red light it clears itself up and is running fine now. Took it to dealer today and no codes were stored so my question is, what could have happened??? Any idea's would be very helpfull. Also was running Smaty Jr. as well

I was thinking the same thing about water in fuel or just bad fuel. I had a full tank of fuel with power service added when i went to the lake in the morning and by the time i was 8 miles from home the same evening it was almost at the half mark on the fuel gauge. So why didnt it act up on my way down to the lake or half way back home from the lake. It's just weird to me.

Check your wiring. SOunds like maybe you have a little wire exposed on a harness that might have been touching the frame or something. Just something to double ck.

check the connections at the injector harness. You may remove the valve cover and inspect the wires that go thru there as well for the injectors. i have heard of a few trucks injector harness chaffing and exposing wires and doing just what you are describing.

i agree with cbrahs on the injector harness only instead of chaffing or rubbing on something maybe just a short internally. my truck has done this 3 times the first 2 times it made the check engine light and threw code saying injector harness short. 3rd time nothing, just was runnning like a ford. The bucking and rough running like you described. No backfire thou
