Seal leak

The rear pinion seal has a small leak at 53K. Had the dealer look at it and check the fluid. The tech. did it right in front of the service desk. He showed me the plug and it had little bits of metal on it. Said to get it in ASAP for inspection. Haven't had any vibrations or noise that I could hear from the rear end. Taking it to the dealer on Mon.
Anybody have any ideas as to what the little metal pieces mite be? Is this common?
Should be covered under extended 7/100k plan. less deductible. All axle services were done at the dealer.

Was it bits of metal as in a "dust" or actual chunks? It is normal for fine shavings to be picked up on the plug, but if it is covered under warranty and they want to do it for free I say let them do it.

They looked like small chunks, about the size of a grain of sand. The tech did explain that silvery dust looking stuff was normal.
