rubber boot off of transfer case?

I was looking under my truck today and noticed that the rubber boot thing that is on drive shaft gowards the rear of the transfer case looks like it is cracked in a few places. No grease coming out or anything but was wondering if this is something that I should wory about? The truck is about six months old is all and only 3500 miles on it. I know cv joint boots you don't want to have any cracks but do not know the purpose of this rubber boot and if it is supose to hold grease or what?

thanks in advance

Dont worry...
Mine has been cracked for 3 years and never leaked a drop.
